Dogs communicate with each other with their bark. It is the very common behavior. However if the bark is much louder,excessive and unwanted it can be annoying for the owner as well as for the neighbors.

First you must determine why your dog is barking before you can begin a program of retraining. You may need help from your animal behaviorist or veterinarian to do this.
If the dog is barking excessively as a response to thunderstorms or other loud noises, provide him a safe place where he can understand to go through such situations. Play some music or radio or TV to get him out of the fear of noise.
